Real Life Stories from the City Mission

God Has Given Me a Second Chance

One may think that homelessness only comes from someone who drank his or her life away.  Don is a different story.  After working for thirty-six years in a factory, Don decided to take a risk.  He retired and took a small amount of savings to move to Utah to live closer to his son.  In the meantime the economy began to struggle.  Don was unable to find work and found his life savings quickly dwindling.  He took his last bit of money to get back to Ohio.  There he found himself living in his truck struggling to survive.  Don did not know that the City Mission of Findlay existed, but fortunately someone else did and referred him to us.  For the past 6 and a half months Don has been participating in our New Life Directions Program and through it says, “If it wasn’t for the program I would not have a relationship with my Heavenly Father.  I feel like God has given me a second chance.”
