About The City Mission
Our History The City Mission of Findlay was founded in 1934 by Mary Carman. It was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1975 and is governed by a 10 member board of trustees nominated from supporting churches and serving alternating four year terms. In addition to emergency shelter, the Mission's functions include food and clothing for residents, and community meals. Since 1934, the City Mission of Findlay has served as an emergency shelter for those in need, providing food, clothing, lodging, counseling and spiritual guidance to men, women and children. The City Mission of Findlay has noticed an increase in the number of local people for whom services are rendered, although many transients are also served. Many local people live below the poverty line, one small paycheck away from disaster. Any sort of crisis has the potential to leave them homeless and unable to recover without some outside help. City Mission serves their immediate needs on a temporary basis, and for some that is enough. Other who are left homeless and are serious about helping themselves are eligible for extensions. There is also the New Life Directions Program for men who are willing to commit to it, and take 6 months to a year in order to recover from addictions, grow in their walk with Christ, look for work, and ultimately move into permanent residence. The homeless population of this area is increasing each year. More local men, women and families are seeking emergency shelter. The City Mission addresses this problem by increasing the number of beds for local men as well as providing separate quarters for families and the handicapped. Top
